2004 2388 Combine, 30' FD70 Header/Unverferth Header, 1015 Pickup/Melroe teeth

We updated one of our combines, and have this combine as a backup but we are ready to sell it. We have taken exceptional care of this combine and it is field ready. Dad runs this combine, and this unit has been meticulously cared for so he doesn't have trouble with it. He is allergic to grain dust, so I've tried to keep this combine in pristine condition. All the service work has been done to it and all the oil and filters have been changed. We bought this combine about 5 years old. We've never turned the fuel pump up on it, but it seems to be about equal to a stock 2588 for power. We've never used it for edible beans with a pickup header, only with a MacDon header. There isn't much dirt that has gone through it. This combine and header has always been shedded.

It has a rock trap on it. The AFX specialty rotor has 8 straight separator bars on it for very minimal rotor loss. If the straight separator bars need to be removed, I painted colors on the back of them so if they get put back in, they are in the exact same place to keep it balanced. For edible beans with lots of foliage, they should probably be taken out.

It has the Universal Harvest monitor on it for yield mapping and moisture. There is a Case IH AgGPS 132 GPS antenna and box along with a Trimble Light bar.

There is a backup rotor belt inside the engine compartment ready to install if/when the rotor belt goes out. The existing rotor belt was just replaced and has about 50 hours on it.

Variable sheaves on the rotor have new pins and bushings as well as bearings replaced on the drive side.

The driven has a new helix and new bearings.

The combine was greased daily for the unloading auger, rotor helix bearings, tailings needle bearings and sieve shaker arm needle bearings.

It has the standard top and bottom sieves on it.

Chopper knives are in good shape. There is a deflector behind the chopper that can be adjusted to divert flow from right to left. Adding that helps to keep the residue even from left to right. The spreaders do a very good job and spread to about 28' of width. The spreader drive has a factory fast pulley on it. The original pulley is on there in case it needs to be slowed down.

There are about 1000 pounds of weight added for the MacDon header, although it could probably use another 200 pounds and maybe tire solution in the rear tires. The MacDon header is pretty heavy and stopping quickly can get the back tires off the ground.

There are large wire concaves for soybeans, edible beans or corn. For tougher or green soybeans, it works well to leave the small wire concave in the front and the rear two large wire.

For small grains, I have the front small wire concave full of interruptor bars, which greatly helps with harder to thresh wheat so the bottom sieve doesn't get overloaded.

Recent work:

-New seal on the rotary air screen

-New engine air filter

-New tailings paddle chain

-New clean grain paddle chain

-New belts on the entire machine except for the feeder engagement drive belt nor feeder drive belt

-I had the feeder off the combine and checked it over last year. The feeder chain has very little wear on it.

-The rotor was removed about 250 hours ago and new rasp bars were installed before the rotor was balanced.

-New rotor cage and vanes

-New coupler on the rotor drive

-The Engine Rear seal was replaced and the PTO gearbox was gone through. When it was apart

-New hydrostatic shaft and the coupler as well, if I remember correctly.

-New front tires (rear tires are original)

-Bearings replaced on the head shaft of the clean grain and bottom auger shaft recently.

-Bearings replaced on the incline auger inside the hopper

-U joints on the incline auger have been replaced and are greasable

-Fan variable hub bearings, all fan sheaves have been recently been replaced.

-Tailings and Clean grain "crazy chain" have been replaced recently.

-Idler pulleys on the right belts have been replaced.

-Bearing on the feeder engagement pulley idler has been replaced.

There are too many other things to mention, but there are hours or dates on bearings or parts as to when they were replaced.

FD70 Header:

Draper belts have all been replaced within the last few years.

The sickle and guards were new about 150 hours ago

Air reel fan has a new impeller. Dust and dirt eventually abrade the impeller and ruins it.

Knife drive and hydraulic system oil/filter are changed regularly

The header was always greased timely and there is very little wear on any of the bushings.

The bearing on the center cross auger failed a few years ago and the pan underneath it got dinged a little from it. It's mostly cosmetic. All the bearings were replaced in that cross auger then.

The pictures show the updated flex point that now has a hinge bolt update. The belt is removed to show it. It was a MacDon kit update. The other picture is the MacDon front linkage update by the center front draper. I believe this header also has the MacDon compression linkage update that puts ball joints on the flex linkages.

The Unverferth trailer can handle up to a 36' header

Known issues of the combine and header:

A/C code 02 can come on intermittently. Usually it's low on freon when that happens but there may be a low pressure switch faulty. I added 134a to the system.

The reel fore/aft and header lift hydraulic system on the combine had a problem. Putting the reel forward or tipping the optimizer sometimes would make the reel drop. I replaced o-rings in the header valve on the combine. I "Think" it's fixed.

The left lift cylinder on the feeder seems to work the pin over holding the two left lift cylinders over. I put grade 8 bolts in it to keep it from coming out, although it is something to keep an eye on.

The Trimble GPS box (Case IH version of the AgGPS 132) can have the screen constantly scroll left and right. It doesn't seem to affect the GPS logging of it but can be hard to change settings within it if it does that.

The top and bottom sieve adjustors work ok, but they've worn the sieve a little bit in the adjustment system on the sieve. If the bottom sieve is closed too much, it can overload the bottom sieve and closes it just a little more. An overloaded bottom sieve will be obvious by the loss monitor pegged for a while and chaff in the hopper.

The 1015 pickup header goes with the combine. It hasn't been used in 20 years so I can't speak to it's usability. It does work but the front belts aren't in very great shape. It has the Melroe pickup teeth on it and worked when we put it away.

For the questions or pictures, send an email through this website.

For serious buyers, I'd gladly do a FaceTime call and visibly show you the machine if you have any questions so there are no surprises. I try to be as open and honest about the condition of the machine. For other pictures you'd like to see, just let me know your concerns.
